With all the upcoming holidays this season, your calendar’s probably filling up faster than you can pour that second cup of coffee. Maintaining a fitness regime is important both mentally and physically though, so be sure to save room for your workouts. Going to the gym can be dull for some people, so here’s some different ways to stay active without being a slave to the treadmill.

 

Join an Adult League
You don’t have to be a kid to play on a sports team anymore. Bring out your dusty sports cap and sign up to play on over a dozen different adult leagues. They have everything from dodgeball to kickball, so grab some friends for a new way to socialize. You’ll have so much fun that you won’t even feel like you’re working out.

 

Head to the Local Pool
On cold, rainy days, it can be hard to motivate yourself to go for a run. Put on your bathing suit and head to your local swimming pool instead. Swimming is actually a pretty tough workout, and is beneficial to those who have an injury due to the water resistance. It doesn’t hurt that you get to relax in the hot tub afterwards to reward yourself.

Set Out on a Hike
Fall is the perfect time to head outdoors to hike with your friends or family. The changing leaves make a beautiful backdrop as you explore the woods around you. Make a day out of it by packing a healthy lunch and picking a scenic overlook to take your rest break on. You’ll have some killer Instagram photos to share afterwards too!

 

Go Canoeing
Crisp fall mornings make for a beautiful time to explore your local lake. Rent a canoe from a shop if you don’t have your own and slowly paddle out to discover what’s around the lake. You’ll get in an amazing arm workout every time you row the oar while bonding with your canoeing buddy.

Join a Fun Run
There’s an abundance of themed races during the fall season, so take advantage of one that sounds fun. Some let you dress up in costume, while others take place on Thanksgiving morning to help you feel less guilty about that second serving of pumpkin pie. Whatever race you choose, you’ll be proud of yourself that you completed it and have a medal to show off to your friends. The goodie bags are usually filled with pretty awesome items too.
